I play this part, and all of the Will Ray parts that I try to tackle, without using slide(s) or the b-Bender. I try to capture as much of the melody and feel as I can, within my humble limitations. In other words, I cheat. Nevertheless, there is still much here worthy of study, and in my opinion these tools aren't what define Will's tone. They're just effects. I've heard him play an unamplified guitar, without a b-Bender, and without using any stealth slides, and to my ear he still sounds unmistakeably like Will Ray. If you look at enough YouTube videos you'll find examples of what I'm talking about. My goal is just to cop what licks I can, and try to make them sound musical, rather than like a series of skateboard tricks performed with the fingers. I've never heard anyone yet who can grab all of Will's bag, so I just try to steal some of his melodic and rhythmic ideas, and some mojo where I can, and try to make it flow.
